Lonely Hearts, maybe?

Select a scenario below and discuss one of them. (keep responses clean)

(14 to 18 year olds)
a. Why would a young lady stick with a young man when she knows that he drinks alcohol and (or) occassionaly smokes pot?
b. Why would a young lady stick with a young man that continually scares her cause of his tirad tantrums?
c. Why would a young lady stick with a young man that is way below her academically? (ex. she is college material and he might not even graduate)
d. Why would a young lady go out with a young man that has a reputation to see how far he can get with her?
e. Why would a young lady that professes to be Christian go out with a young man who is obviously not a Christian?
f. Or if you are a young man select a senario above and reverse the rolls and then leave your opinion.

  • Hey. I would say, for all of them that maybe, she/he loves him/her. Maybe, s/he would want to live her/his live with him/her. That is what I think.

  • I am going to pick A. I think that the lady would stick with the guy, becuase maybe he does that stuff, but that doesnt mean it effects how their relationship is. He could do pot ocasssionallly but that doesn't mean they are in a bad realtionship. :) So I defintly believe it shouldn't matter. If he is doing it around her and she does not like it maybe she should talk to him. And if she doesn't like it at all then talk to him to. Remember that just becuase you talk to him, he is going to change. If he doesnt change her only options are to maybe live with it, or leave him.

    I just learned about this, this past weekend in a Peer Support program which totallly rocked!

    Becuase she loves him and she has it in her heart that she can change them bad things...

    b. Why would a young lady stick with a young man that continually scares her cause of his tirad tantrums?
    Because maybe she cant find someone else to be with and she really loves him. I really cant answer this question becasue I havent been in this situation and everybody knows its different when your the one in the position.


    d. Why would a young lady go out with a young man that has a reputation to see how far he can get with her?
    Because maybe he will fall in love with her and spend the rest of his life with her.


    e. Why would a young lady that professes to be Christian go out with a young man who is obviously not a Christian?
    She could probably change him like the first question.

  • I don't believe that a girl should marry someone thinking that she can change him, because I don't think she can. Obviously, she doesn't love who he is, because she wants to change him. I think that if a girl does that it is because she either has low self esteem and doesn't think she can do any better, or she is giving into peer pressure and is dating who everyone else wants her to. Or she likes the attention he is giving her when no one else is. Girls and guys should go out with people who are a match for them not someone totally opposite.

  • a) Maybe a young lady sticks with that kind of guy because the attraction goes further than just the guy's habbits. I mean, if she is interested in him it's because he has got to have qualities that overcome his defects. Or if not, I think it's nonsense.

    People shouldn't be discriminated for datibg other persons with other religions, because religion is just a human invention, and mustn't influence in a person's choice of boy/girlfriend.

    DEFINATELY SHOULD
    influence the choice of someone to date!!! Also religion is not a human invention! God is real, and he is living in heaven and my heart. I'm not trying to jump all on your case or anything phoenix, but I STRONGLY believe in the Bible and God.

  • can I just add something, occansionally drinking and smoking pot, is not a habbit or an addiction, and I have first hand expirence. I can kinda understand why the girl might worry, but aslong as she understands its in moderation, then I can't see it affecting their relationship.

  • resas-pieces... I'm not crizisting your way of thinking, but just because you believe in god, why should it affect others choice in partner. Some of my friends are religious, some are athiest, and some are spiritual. This sparks brilliant conversation, which is imperitive in a good relationship.

  • A young lady would stick with a messed up dude because she does not know what she is worth and she thinks he's as good as it gets. The way Hollywood pictures most families these days helps put that kind of picture in the young lady's head.

  • Honestly lots of times if a girl wants to stick with a guy like that its because she is really insecure and doesn't REALLY love him, she just wants someone to love her. She wants to believe that he loves her too,so she can feel safe and cared for and not feel left out of the little circle of couples, unfortunately she is just putting herself in more danger and self hurt than she can possibly imagine.

    If she wants to get with a guy, I think that the girl hopes that she can help him with issues that obviously were before her. Or, if they have been together for a while and he just started to take it up then the girl knows that she could change him. I think if they both want the change to happen, then it's possible. People who drink probably do it because they are either bored, hurt, or peers are doing it. Both smoking pot and drinking can make you loopy, but you eventually have to come back to your problems at hand.

  • Its OK if a girl wants to change a guy whos got more obvious problems than his priorities mixed up, BUT IT IS POSSIBLE WITHOUT GETTING INTO A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP!!! If you dont take this in mind you can get into some serious hot water!

  • Anonymous, for one the Bilbe says it's a sin to marry someone that doesn't believe in Him. If your dating then I hope its not just for fun and your looking for someone to marry. Plus, if you were dating someone that is a Christian and your not wouldn't it bother you? If she wanted to go to church and pray, and you thought it was stupid there would be a lot of arguments. Most Christians think of their religion as a way of life. Well some do and if they don't they should.I would never and will never date anyone that wasn't a Christian.

    NOTE
    I would appreciate it if everyone would capitalize God's name, even if you don't believe in Him. Some people are offended by God, but I'm offended when people don't capitalize His name. It's a proper noun anyways. He is also your creator, savior, and a billion other good things.

  • ok im going to reply for all of them
    A. I think she would stick with him becuase she thinks that maybe she could have a GOOD POSITIVE influense on him and he might realize that he didnt need to do those things and she might really care for him and try to convince him how BAD those things are for him and convince him to stop doing them.
    B. I honestly have NO idea but i guess it would just be because she loves him and thinks that he doesnt really mean any harm with his tantrums
    C.because honestly if the girl loves the guy their academic differences shouldnt make a difference in their relationship
    D. Because once again she might really care about this guy and want him to go to heaven with her and she would want him to learn about the Lord with her.

  • Maybe she sticks with him because she is scared. Shes scared that he will hurt her more. Because if he threatens to hurt her why she is trying to leave then she will get scared and never get courage to leave him. She Just thinks he will hurt her.
